VEER

The work on Veer began as a master plan and continued as a collaboration with Studio Libeskind who was charged with the retail work. The buildings ultimately ended up in the heart of the urban masterplan. As a result, they were quite important from the developer’s perspective. This drove the decision to tilt the two towers away from each other by about 30 ft so that the higher units were not looking into the facing apartment, but instead had powerful views of the city. In approaching the site, addressing the extreme climate was essential. A responsive energy efficient building skin was proposed. The randomness of the skin is tied to the layout of the

floors and a function of the fact that each floor moves out 3 inches with the same layout being repeated every 3 floors. IMAGES BY RAINER VIERTLBOECK
